Schofield shines in Ron Hill road race

ROYTON Road Runners provided 46 entrants in a field of 190 for the Ron Hill 5k race in Littleborough, to celebrate the great athlete’s 74th birthday.
The race was won in a time of 16mins 10secs by Robin Whitely, while Royton’s Martin Schofield finished fifth in 17:36m.
Local runner Bill Balmer made the top 10 and was first V40 overall in 18:15, which moved him to third place in the Royton club championship standings.
The next 12 Royton finishers crossed the line within a 42-second period.
