Rifle find range in trophy test

FOOTBALL:
RIFLE Range ‘B’ saw off a spirited challenge from Old Grey Mare to claim a 3-2 win and a place in the Midas Oldham Sunday League President’s Trophy second round.
Jack Abbott Premier Division action saw Fitton Hill get the better of Oddies 3-1.
Leighton Stephenson struck twice for Legends, who defeated Crompton House Old Boys 4-2.
Limeside King George earned a 4-4 draw with Red Star, while basement boys Royton FC were swept aside 8-1 at Rifle Range ‘A’.
In Martin Buckley Division Two, Summit saw off Royton Athletic 5-1 (see John Gilder’s Match of the Day).
HEYSIDE were on the wrong end of a 5-1 result against Westend in Huddersfield and District League Division Two.
The visitors were left to rue a host of missed chances and paid the price, as they trailed 2-0 at half-time.
Division One action saw Uppermill beat Holbridge 1-0 and Diggle lose 6-3 at Newsome.
In Reserve Division One, Heyside were defeated 4-2 at home by Shepley.
SANTOS climbed to third place in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Division One table after a 4-2 home victory over Heaton Mersey.
SPRINGHEAD’S indifferent start to the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League season continued when they lost 1-0 at East Manchester.
Both defences were well on top in a forgettable Premier Division clash.
There was better news for Avro, who defeated Stockport Georgians 5-2, while Royton Town earned a 2-2 draw at Old Alts.
In Division One, Hollinwood romped to a 4-1 triumph at Salford Victoria.
