Paul Hartley with his trophy
FOOTBALL:
AFTER decades of keeping order from the middle of the pitch, referee Paul Hartley has been rewarded.
The 62 year old, from Uppermill, was handed a long-service award by the Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League.
The trophy now has pride of place in a cabinet at Oldham Library, in the league’s hall of fame collection.
He said: “I officiated in the Oldham Sunday League for 21 years and it was brilliant to receive such an unexpected award.
“I have never tired of refereeing. I love the banter and jokes between myself and the players.
“If the game is played in the right spirit everyone can enjoy themselves.”
