Champions’ bid ends at last-eight stage

Gary Ellis: didn’t manage to add the final trophy to his season tally.
BOWLS: GARY Ellis fell at the quarter-final stage in his bid to add the British Crown Green Bowling Association Champion of Champions’ title to his recent Waterloo Handicap triumph.
On the same green in Blackpool, Tonge star Ellis lost 21-12 TO Simon Coupe, from Preston.
Coupe went on to reach the final, only to lose 21-18 against Merseyside's John Finch.
Ellis’s team-mate, Jimmy Derby, was beaten 21-18 in the last 16 by South Yorkshire's Chris Brown.
