Second win for in-form Saddleworth

TABLE TENNIS:

SADDLEWORTH ‘A’ made it two wins out of two in Oldham Table Tennis League Division One after getting the better of Honeywell ‘A’ 8-2.

In a difficult match that saw only one set decided in three games, Ian MacLean continued his unbeaten run in the league, despite Honeywell taking the early lead.

Honeywell ‘B’ claimed their first victory of the season, beating last year’s Division Two champions Hyde YMCA 7-3.

Though Hyde stormed ahead to an initial 2-0 lead, Peter Fowler put in an unbeaten performance to secure the win for the home team.

Division Two action saw Coldhurst ‘A’ fight hard for their first win of the campaign, beating Droyslden 9-1 at home — a scoreline that was probably a bit harsh on the visitors.

Tim Greenald took a point for Droylsden, but maximums for the two Simons — King and Walsh — took Coldhurst to within four points of leaders Hollinwood ‘D’.

Honeywell ‘’C kept up the pressure at the top by winning 7-3 at Werneth ‘C’. Rob Carter was unbeaten on the night, as the home side recorded their second victory of the campaign, despite Paul Wilkinson winning two for Werneth.
