SURROUNDED . . . Junior Brandford, of Saddleworth Rangers, tries to find a way through the Myton Warriors line in the Premier Division clash.
RUGBY:
COACH Emerson Jackman spoke of his pride after Saddleworth Rangers defeated high-flying Myton Warriors 24-22 in the National Conference League Premier Division.
The victory — their fifth in the league this season — could not stave off relegation, but proved to the former Oldham RL player what Rangers are capable of.
“It’s a shame it has come too late to make a difference,” said Jackman, whose saw his young side forge a 12-0 advantage by half-time.
“They all did well and deserved a good win. It bodes well for next season,” he said.
The visitors replied just after the restart but Rangers, who so often this season have wasted leads, hit back immediately.
Morrison (53) and loose forward Gareth Morgan (60) crossed, and with Bradbury adding the extras, the lead was back up to 24-10.
Warriors responded to cut the deficit to a couple of points. But Rangers, displaying plenty of guts, held on.
