Saints show plenty of spirit

JORDAN GALLOWAY: good game.
RUGBY:
OLDHAM St Anne’s produced a gutsy performance despite succumbing 38-4 at Division One leaders Castleford Lock Lane.
The score didn’t reflect the effort and commitment shown by Chris Deakin’s side, which camped out on the hosts’ line for much of the opening quarter.
Jordan Galloway, the Saints man-of-the-match, had another fine game.
The game turned on two unlucky breaks for Saints when they failed to find touch with a penalty kick, which resulted in Craig Duncan touching down for the home side.
Danny Rowse converted, and within minutes a 40-20 kick gave Castleford the platform for Adam Garlick to dive in.
Tom Wood soon followed up with his team’s third try, and though the contest had swung in Castleford’s favour by half-time, Saints were still in with a shout at 14-0 down.
The visitors gave it their all in the second period, but tries from Craig Duncan, Ben Kendrew and Karl Robinson, plus a conversion from Wayne Hardy, saw Castleford open up a 28-0 lead.
Saints deservedly got on the board when stalwart Paul Garrett went over in the corner off a fine Martin Swaine pass.
