NETBALL:
OLDHAM Netball Club’s juniors got their bid for national honours off to the perfect beginning with victories over Trafford.
After a shaky start, the under-14s recorded a comfortable 54-24 win and the under-16s triumphed 50-39.
The younger age group were only four goals to the good after the opening quarter, but by the mid-way point and with Ellie Fitzhugh excelling at goal defence, they enjoyed a 26-14 lead. The second half was one-way traffic.
The under-16s - who apart from captain Isabella McGlashen are made up of juniors still qualified at under-15 - hit the ground running against Trafford.
Oldham’s young side, with some superb interceptions early on, ended the first quarter 13-7 in front.
Trafford fought back in the second quarter, harassing Oldham’s shooters but the lead had increased to 23-16 at half time and 50-39 at the finish.
Goal shooter Amy Clinton went into the third quarter with a stunning 100-per-cent shooting record of 26 goals from 26 attempts.
