MOHAMMED Zaman Khan has swapped the Paddock for the Coppice after signing a two-year deal as Werneth’s professional.

Among the leading all-rounders in the CLL, the news is a coup for the club who, like the other three local teams, will play in the lower tier of the inaugural two-division competition next season.

Werneth hope former Royton pro Khan, who replaces Hasnain Abbas, brings the best out of a set of players who are yet to realise their full potential.

Chairman of the club, Howard Dronsfield, said: “We’re over the moon to sign Zaman, and for a couple of years as well.

“We’re a young side and it was felt we needed a bit of experience. That’s what he has got.

A resident of Rochdale, he will get the chance to train with his new team-mates when indoor net sessions get under way in January.

Ian McGeary, secretary of the cricket section at Royton, said: “In the second half of last season, Zaman was as good as anybody in the league.

“We knew he had been made an offer, so we didn’t stand in his way. The club wish him all the best.

“As for his replacement, we should know in a month or so.”
