FOOTBALL:
MOSSLEY edged out promotion rivals Warrington Town 1-0 in Evo-Stik League Division One North.
The Lilywhites were looking good before the visitors were reduced to 10 men after 20 minutes when Fraser Ablett walked for a late challenge on Sam Madeley.
Steve Halford’s side came close to breaking the deadlock on several occasions in the first half.
Things went from bad to worse for Town when Kevin Towson received a second yellow card in the 69th minute. Adam Mather went close to scoring for Mossley but his long-range free-kick bounced back from a post.
Just when it looked like the visitors would cling on, Madeley got on the end of Rowney’s delivery to head into the net in the 84th minute.
CHADDERTON manager Paul Buckley hailed his side’s “superb’ 2-0 win over Atherton Collieries in the Vodkat North-West Counties League Challenge Cup first round.
The visitors tested Chadderton early on, but Sean Sherwood’s 18th minute strike against the run of play put the home outfit on the right track.
Matty Russell doubled the advantage after half-an-hour and Buckley’s boys never looked back, producing a commanding display.
OLDHAM Boro bowed out of the NWCL Challenge Cup at the first round stage after a late setback saw them lose 2-1 at Abbey Hey.
Lee Knowles put Boro in front with 34 minutes on the clock courtesy of a neat finish inside the penalty area.
Damian Healey restored parity for Abbey Hey with 18 minutes of the contest remaining, and Jonathon Hardy came up with the winner nine minutes from full-time.
