RUGBY:
HOLLINWOOD could be thrown out of Pennine League if they fail to raise a team for Saturday’s Division Five home clash with Eastmoor Dragons.
Secretary Fred Halliwell attended a league disciplinary meeting following the side’s failure to turn out against Meltham All Blacks and Hunslet Old Boys ‘A’. It was made clear to him that if Hollinwood fail to honour the schedule again this season, they face expulsion.
“Another no-show without good reason and we could be on our way out. For the two we missed, we had 29 players registered, but only nine turned up.
“Summer rugby is playing a huge part in this. It is ruining the amateur game because a lot of lads I know either feel burned out or are getting grief at home for playing so many games.”
“It is a very serious situation for us, and I have told all the players what the ramifications are, but I can’t force anyone to turn out for matches.”
