Title shot build-up begins at York Hall

OLDHAM’S Ronnie Heffron will fight on the undercard of Frankie Gavin and Junior Witter’s British welterweight title showdown on November 1.

The unbeaten 21-year-old was supposed to take on David Barnes in a British title eliminator last Friday, only for Barnes to be injured in a car accident.

Instead, he now heads to York Hall in Bethnal Green, on the Gavin v Witter show four weeks before his scheduled and long-awaited first title shot at the Manchester Arena in November — the same night as former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff’s boxing debut.

Heffron’s opponents for the upcoming fights are yet to be determined.

His Failsworth-based trainer, Anthony Farnell, said: “Ronnie is looking forward to returning to the ring at the start of next month.

“He just needs to come through this next bout unscathed because his first title shot is just four weeks later.

Tickets for the show at York Hall are priced at £35 and £60 through Ticketmaster
