OLDHAM’S Northern League girls brushed aside North West Jays 49-27 at Wright Robinson College.
Shooter Amy Clinton (15) and goal attack Harriett Gill displayed great accuracy in front of the net for the hosts, who opened up a 14-7 lead at the first break.
Another 15 year old, Amy Neild got a taste of senior netball at shooter. Jess Whitworth (wing attack) and Charlotte Spence (wing defence) were introduced as well in the second period.
The Jays stepped up the pace in this quarter, but tight defence from Gemma McDermott (goal defence) and skipper Danni Bloomfield (goal keeper) ensured the side was in the ascendancy at half-time, 22-15.
Coach Pam Hazelton made more changes for the second half, which paid off as Oldham stretched 12 points ahead (34-22). The final quarter was one-way traffic; Oldham adding 15 goals to the Jays’ five.
