COACH Debbie Hallas saluted Laura Malcolm and Helen Housby after reigning champions Oldham kept up their 100 per cent start to the Premier League season.

The duo showed off their skills in a 60-51 defeat of Leeds at Hathershaw Sports Centre.

Oldham didn’t have it all their own way against the West Yorkshire side, which capitalised on a series of changes by the hosts after half time to stage a comeback. But Oldham was still worthy of a fourth straight win.

Hallas said: “We struggled to be consistent throughout each quarter and we need to improve that with some important games on the horizon. I was particularly pleased with Laura Malcolm and Helen Housby.

“Laura is showing more maturity at centre and Helen was particularly impressive when she moved out to goal attack.”

At the first break, Georgie Webster replaced Sarah Carter at goal keeper while youngster Housby came on for Enziano at shooter.

Oldham started the quarter strongly and extended a 16-12 lead with Beth Cobden, Malcolm and Emma Dovey combining well in defence.

With the score 32-23 in Oldham’s favour, Rachel Henry came on for McAndrew at wing attack and Rachael Taylor gave Cobden a well-earned rest. Oldham lost momentum and the quarter 14-11.

With the threat of a Leeds comeback, Oldham reintroduced shooter Enziano, who quickly got into her stride, linking well with Housby. The latter, clever for such a young player, linked the attack beautifully as Oldham closed out the game.
