Angling:

CHRIS Oliver made no mistake from a good draw in the latest Todmorden AS members-only match on Croft. Using pole, pellet and meat, he tempted some decent-sized carp in a 70lb net.

Regular winner Pete Fitton had to settle for second place, with tip and pellet tactics attracting 41lb 4oz of carp.

TYLE Lodge was the venue for a close-fought Dunlop AC match. Ben Gratton emerged victorious, with maggot up in the water tempting 21lb 10oz of carp, chub, ide and roach. Runner-up Larry Hazeldine fished on the deck for 20lb 10oz of carp, chub, ide and roach.

THE Park Lake is in good form, with different species making up most nets. Steve Clegg was the winner of Saturday’s Medlock Bridge AC open at the venue.

The Saints rod opted for maggot at 11 and 12 metres for 11lb 7oz of small chub, skimmers, roach and small perch from peg 24 ‘A’. Second place went to Clegg’s travelling partner Mark Webb (Saints).

Situated from peg seven ‘A’, he used squatt and maggot at 11 metres for lots of small roach, perch, barbell and eight smallish chub which together weighed in at 10lb 15oz.

KEITH Hennigan from Slaithwaite won the penultimate round of the Pennine Winter League on the Rochdale Canal. It was a cracking contest with sections fishing well, though a slight overnight frost forced down the fish a bit.

Hennigan had a superb 6lb 5oz net of roach on bread punch from next to the swingbridge at Littleborough. Second-best Paul Cryer was also among the roach, and again it was bread punch which tempted his 4lb 13 1/2oz catch.

On the team front, Maver NW are on course for a third title on the trot.

They have an eight-point advantage and, with just one match to go, they are in the driving seat.

The last match of the series is on Sunday on the canal at Brighouse.

THE Todmorden AS seniors Christmas match is on Sunday, December 9, at Croft and Townhouse Fisheries. The draw is up to 9am at the Falcon Hotel, Littleborough, with fishing 10am to 1pm.

Prizes and trophies will be awarded back at the pub from 3pm. Tickets must be bought in advance.
