First-round exit for Santos

FOOTBALL:
SANTOS crashed out of the Lancashire Cup after a 3-0 first round home defeat by Marsh United.

They will look to bounce back with a positive result at Ardwick tomorrow in Lancashire and Cheshire League Division One.



HEYSIDE earned a 2-2 draw at promotion favourites Kirkheaton Rovers in Huddersfield and District League Division Two.

In Division One, there were contrasting wins for Uppermill and Diggle. One goal was enough for the former at Berry Brow, while the latter hit the target eight times with no reply in the emphatic defeat of Royal Dolphins.



CROMPTON Victoria pulled off the shock of the second round in the Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League President’s Trophy, winning 3-0 at Oldham Tigers.

The visitors, from Division Three, were too hot to handle for their Martin Buckley Division Two opponents.

They are joined by David Giblin Division One side Willow Tavern, who cruised past Rifle Range ‘C’, of Division Three, 7-2.

Division One leaders Failsworth Athletic crashed out of the competition following a 5-0 home reverse at the hands of Famous King George ‘A’.

Jack Abbott Premier Division action saw leaders Legends Bar edge out second-placed Coppice United ‘A’.

Limeside King George, third in the table, defeated Crompton House Old Boys 5-0.

Red Star drew 5-5 with Fitton Hill, and Rifle Range ‘A’ swept aside Oddies 10-1.

Dog and Duck made it seven wins out of seven in Division Three — but they were pushed all the way by Famous King George ‘B’ who succumbed 4-3.



ROYTON FC resigned from the Jack Abbott Premier League after problems raising a team. They had already missed three fixtures and their record will be expunged.



CHADDERTONIANS are sure to dig out the finest crockery as they celebrate their 75th year next month.

OLDHAM Hulmeians routed Accrington Amateurs 4-0 in Lancashire Amateur League Division Two.

Chaddertonians drew 3-3 at Castle Hill in the Premier Division, while Failsworth Dynamos and Howe Bridge Mills battled out a 2-2 draw.
