RUGBY:
HIGGINSHAW got off the mark at home with a 14-6 victory over a robust Blackbrook side.
The hosts controlled much of the North-West Counties League clash, with Jordan White, Jonny Kelly and David Sweeney all outstanding.
After resisting early pressure, Higgy put the first points on the board in the 36th minute when Ryan O’Donnell completed then converted a useful move.
Higgy threw everything at Blackbrook in the second half, going close on several occasions.
The visitors drew level with a well-worked try, at which Higgy had to be at their best to prevent anh more. O’Donnell’s trusty boot opened up a two-point lead with eight minutes to go.
A penalty two minutes from time eased the pressure, with a drive upfield that was completed by Mark Ward and converted by O’Donnell.
SADDLEWORTH Rangers ‘A’ recorded their fifth win of the season in Division Four of the North-West Men’s League. Away to mid-table rivals Burtonwood Bridge, Rangers powered to a 36-28 victory.
