A BIT of tactical nous worked the oracle for Old Grey Mare in their defeat of plucky Oldham Tigers in the Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League at Clayton playing fields.
Trailing 3-1 with less than 20 minutes remaining of this Martin Buckley Division Two clash, Mare skipper Anthony Duffy moved central defender Paddy Harwood into the team's problematic midfield area and the response was three goals in the time that remained to snatch all three points.
Duffy said: "We were below par up to the last 20 minutes and our goalkeeper Stuart Wilson kept us in the game.”
"Tigers roared into the lead in the fourth minute, but Duffy pulled Mare level at the mid-way point of the first half.
By the hour mark, Tigers led 3-1 and, until a crucial tactical switch, Mare never really looked like getting anything out of the game.
The comeback was sealed in the final minute thanks to Danny Whitaker's decisive touch, leaving the Tigers with their tails between their legs on an afternoon which promised so much for them.
