DECORATED Oldhamers will be in the spotlight once again on Friday at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards.

Winners of last June’s One Future Oldham Sports Awards are this time up against achievers from nine other boroughs at the Point, Lancashire Cricket Club.

Pam Hazelton (netball, coach of the year), Oldham Netball Club (club of the year), Phil Dean (Royton FC, volunteer of the year), Jessica Lloyd (swimmer, sports achiever of the year), Ben Procter (swimmer, disabled sports achiever of the year) and Simon Bruce Lake (runner, physical activity award) all carry forward their nominations to the Greater Manchester stage.

The late Steve Lynch, of Chadderton Park FC, passed away after his recognition as Unsung Hero of the Year at the Oldham ceremony, but his name has still been submitted for consideration ahead of Friday’s event.

Special guests include David Weir, who won four gold medals in the London 2012 Paralympics, and Olympic gold medallists Greg Rutherford and Jade Jones, who triumphed in long jump and taekwondo respectively.
