Higgy bounce back

HIGGINSHAW’S Kris Richards is stopped in his tracks as he attempts to break through the Widnes Tigers line.
RUGBY: HIGGINSHAW displayed excellent powers of recovery to defeat Widnes Tigers 34-20 in the North-West Counties League.
A flying start from the visitors saw Gary Kelly and Graham Bennett touch down — Dave Patterson converted one of the tries — for a 10-0 lead.
Higgy needed a response and through powerful props Michael Smith and Michael Cadd, they got it.
Strong running from captain Carl Fields and Jonny Fullalove’s excellent kicking game also aided Higgy’s comeback.
It was Nathan Jewitt who put their first points on the board with an interception try after 28 minutes.
Straight from the restart Higgy were in again, with Mark Ward releasing Jordan White to score under the posts. Fullalove converted to make it all-square.
The Higgy defence of Kris Richards, Sean Stubbs and Steve Perry worked hard as Widnes threatened to hit back.
Fields extended Higgy’s advantage five minutes after the interval, and there was no let up for their opponents thereafter
Tigers had their moments and scored two late tries, but it was too little too late.
