Cloud nine for hot-shots

ONE of the more eye-catching results in the latest round of Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League fixtures was Crompton Victoria’s 22-0 victory at Oldham FC.

It was the biggest margin of victory in the OSL since Bergmans ‘A’ roared to a 30-0 triumph at the expense of Moss FC on April 16, 1994.

While Oldham FC went into this contest bottom of the Division Three table, having lost all seven games, few would have predicted such a hammering.

The vast majority of the damage to Oldham FC’s goal — and battered egos — was done by strike pair Tom Sellers and John Ryder, who notched nine goals each.

Martyn Hall, Danny May, Lee Taylor, Liam Spence rounded off the rout with a goal apiece.

Crompton Victoria secretary Matthew Mills said: “Usually when you see a huge scoreline there are mitigating circumstances for the losing side — a couple of red cards or injuries, that kind of thing.

“But there was none of that on this occasion, everything just clicked for us and we could have scored even more to be honest.

“Tom and John were clinical, every time they got a chance it seemed to fly into the net.”

The result put Vics on 11 points and did their goal difference no harm whatsoever.
