Victorious Mossley ride luck

MOSSLEY moved eight points clear at the top of Evo-Stik League Division One North after a hard-fought 2-1 win at Ramsbottom United.

The Lilywhites made the perfect start, taking the lead in the second minute through prolific marksman Sam Madeley.

He controlled Jay Gorton’s long ball beautifully before a dazzling turn and shot which flew into the net.

In fairness to the hosts, their response was excellent, and they controlled the contest for long spells.

Mossley goalkeeper Martin Pearson was alert to the threat and thwarted efforts from Phil Dean and skipper Andrew Dawson.

The home outfit levelled just before the half-hour mark. Pearson’s attempted long kick hit he back of Dean and bounced into the path of Jon Robinson, whose cross was met by Lee Gaskell.

The striker's effort was blocked by Pearson and the rebound was hastily cleared, only for Robinson to scramble home from six yards.

Mossley boss Steve Halford switched from a back three to a back four and his side improved, with Kayde Coppin going close.

And they regained the lead with 34 minutes gone, Adam Mather smashing In Madeley’s pass from the edge of the penalty area.

In a bid to improve home attendances at Seel Park, anyone who produces a season ticket from another club on match day can get in for half-price.
