Win romp for Hollinwood
Date published: 15 November 2012
HOLLINWOOD were expecting a tough time against Slaithwaite Saracens ‘A’, who had only previously lost one game in Pennine League Division Five.
But after Saracens arrived with 12 players and lost another because of a shoulder injury, the hosts sauntered to a 62-6 success.
In fact, such was Hollinwood’s dominance, the referee blew up early to save Saracens from more damage.
Pete Davies started the avalanche of points with a long sprint to the line, which left would-be tacklers trailing in his wake.
Andy Gorey kicked the conversion, and from then on it was one-way traffic.
The Hollinwood players took it in turns to score — Gorey was successful with most of his goal attempts — and with a 36-0 lead at the interval, the match was over.
There was no let-up in second period. Terry Whaley made break after break with Matty Holland, in support, feeding the Hollinwood backs.
Alistair Williams, Davies and Holland bagged two tries apiece and Tom McMullon also went over to complete an emphatic victory.
Saracens did record a consolation try, which was converted, late on.
