County bowls saved

THE Greater Manchester County Bowling Association has been saved.
A notice of dissolution at the annual meeting at Cheetham Hill Cricket Club was defeated after it became apparent that key positions within the association would be filled.
The bowling body was under serious threat of extinction following David Williams’ decision to step down from a number of senior posts, including secretary and treasurer.
However, a number of bowlers in the county got together to discuss a package of rescue measures and their efforts culminated in success at the annual meeting.
Every key role was filled and a proposal to levy each team in the association £2 was passed despite opposition in some quarters.
This means that the association could see their coffers boosted by as much as £1,400 which would give them the financial stability to meet their obligations to the British Crown Green Association.
The success of the meeting also means that the county teams at veteran, senior and junior level can continue to function, along with the county merits.
