Duo make instant impact

A STRONG second-half performance from Oldham Netball Club clinched a 51-37 Northern League victory at Leeds.
The early stages of the first quarter were nip and tuck, but it was Oldham who managed to sneak ahead by one goal thanks to the efforts of shooters Krista Enziano and 15-year-old Amy Clinton.
Wing defence Amber Hazelton was brought on for the second quarter and she had an immediate impact on the game.
However, Leeds did not buckle and just one goal separated the two sides at half-time.
It was a different story in the second period.
The introduction of Harriet Gill (goal attack) and Jess Whitworth (wing attack) completely changed the dynamics of the contest, with Oldham breaking down the Leeds defence time and again.
Defenders Danni Bloomfield and Gemma McDermott forced the hosts into mistakes and the duo’s quick reactions picked up loose balls.
They also made numerous interceptions, which saw Oldham forge into a seven-goal lead by the end of the third quarter (36–29).
There was no stopping Oldham now, with stylish performances from Gabby Marshall and Olivia Jarvis and errors by Leeds combining to seal a comfortable win.
Oldham: K Enziano, A Clinton, H Gill, J Whitworth, S Chapman, G Marshall, A Hazelton, G McDermott, D Bloomfield.
