TRI-CAST Highfield possess a two-point advantage with one round to go in the Lancashire Winter League on High Heyes Fishery.

Victory in the penultimate match would have clinched Tri-Cast the title, but it wasn’t to be.

Two of their anglers were drawn on the worst pegs and they ended up last in their sections.

The rest of the team fared much better with two firsts and four seconds, but it wasn’t enough to hold off High Heyes, who were able to narrow the deficit.

It should make for a cracking finale.

DRAWN behind the pub, Simon Walton grabbed first place in the Saturday open match on the Hopwood Arms length of the Rochdale Canal.

After struggling on squatt, the Maver North-West rod switched to bread punch down the middle for 1lb 8oz skimmer and 200 roach which tipped the scales at 6lb 14oz.

Team-mate Alan Crook also went for squatt from the start and caught a fair number of small roach before his swim dried up. He changed to bread punch and ended up with 4lb 14oz and second place.
