THE Lake Garage CLL will be able to kick teams out of the Wood Cup if a proposal is passed at the league’s annual meeting on Friday.

Current rules don’t legislate for such action — an anomaly which worked against Crompton last season.

In their first-round match at home to Unsworth, Crompton suffered defeat against a side which contained an unregistered player.

Crompton skipper Carl Taylor declared that had his team offended in such a way he would have expected the club to be expelled from the competition. Instead, Unsworth received a fine and progressed to the quarter-finals.

To let all clubs know a similar offence won’t be tolerated, the CLL’s management committee proposes to expel an offending team instead of fining the club at fault.

Crompton will argue this comes 12 months too late - while use of the word ‘may’ instead of ‘will’ leaves the decision to expel at the discretion of the management committee.

POWER plays could be introduced in the CLL this summer.

Unsworth are proposing that for the first 15 overs of innings, only four players can be outside the fielding circle.

Thereafter a minimum of four fieldsman and the wicketkeeper must remain in the circle for the rest of the innings.

The move is designed to produce more exciting cricket with the potential for pinch-hitters in the early stages of innings.

And the first of those innings could begin as early as 12.30pm if Norden get their way.

The Woodhouse Lane club have submitted a proposal that all matches start at 12.30pm, rather than 1.30pm.

They say the current position, which can mean players getting home well after 9pm, can be a burden on players with young families or early starts next day.
