Dale Lowe: winning ways
RUGBY:
WITH two individual gongs safely tucked away, Waterhead’s Dale Lowe is on course to make it a treble.
League Weekly — one of the sport’s trade papers — named the 23-year-old hooker its National Conference League Division Two player of the season.
He has also shared the Rugby Oldham ‘Man-of-Steel’ award with Jordan Galloway of Oldham St Anne’s.
And on Saturday, Lowe will discover if he is the Division Two player of the season at an awards ceremony in Huddersfield. He is on a short list of three.
Lowe was instrumental in helping Waterhead secure promotion as runners-up.
“It was a nice surprise — I wasn’t expecting it,” said Lowe, reflecting on his League Weekly honour.
Lowe joined Waterhead aged eight, switched to Saddleworth Rangers in his late teens before returning a couple of years ago.
Lowe is confident Waterhead can make their presence felt in Division One next season.
“If the team sticks together, which I’m sure it will, then I can see us having another good year,” he Lowe.
Galloway had an outstanding season for Saints in Division One. The Australian, who can play at hooker or loose forward, will share the £500 prize with Lowe.
