Owen on target in cup win

FOOTBALL:
IN-FORM Springhead roared to a 3-0 win at Rothwell in the third round of the West Riding FA Cup.
The Rothwell goalkeeper did well to thwart Adam Nuttall and Josh Walker but on the stroke of half-time Scott Owen powered home from close range. Five minutes after the interval Lee McAllister’s side scoed again, sealing the win beyond doubt with a third two minutes from the end from the penalty spot.
In Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division action, Avro won 1-0 at Manchester Gregorians and Royton Town drew 2-2 at Wythenshawe Amateurs.
CARRION Crow earned a 2-1 win at Old Grey Mare in Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League Martin Buckley Division Two.
On the mark for the leaders were Tony Lloyd and Lee Kerwin.
Tony Harrison responded for Mare but it proved to be a consolation.
Division Three action saw Crompton Victoria sweep aside Oldham FC 5-1, with John Ryder bagging a brace.
He was joined on the scoresheet by Martin Hall, Liam Spence and Danny May.
Dog and Duck routed Junction Inn 6-1 (see John Gilder’s Match of the Day).
The rest of the Oldham Sunday League schedule was hit by postponements due to the Manchester derby and adverse weather conditions.
HEYSIDE twice surrendered a lead in the Barlow Cup clash with Scholes and eventually exited the competition after a 3-2 loss.
Jason Titterington and Carl Winstanley both netted, only to see parity restored as the sides entered the interval locked at 2-2.
Scholes prevailed courtesy of a hotly-disputed winner 10 minutes from time, with the visitors believing it to be offside.
Heyside reserves crashed out of the Richardson Cup following a 4-3 home loss to Diggle.
Heyside led three times but were pegged back each time.
Diggle’s winner came in the second half of extra-time.
Ashley Blakeman, Steven Partington and Craig Winstanley scored for Heyside.
