LET’S GO: Hollinwood's Lewis Green sidesteps a Salford Victoria opponent.
FOOTBALL:
Hollinwood 2, Salford Victoria 0
HOLLINWOOD moved up to seventh place in Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Division One following a 2-0 victory over lowly Salford Victoria at Chapel Road.
But it took a half-time roasting from manager Fred Hardicre to help get his side in gear. And it was one of those days when a team talk worked wonders.
Hardicre said: “Some of our players thought it was going to be a walkover against Salford. We made hard work of it in the first half but we put that right
“I told the lads if there was no improvement I would be making early changes. Things didn’t improve and I brought on Mark Pyatt and Matt Clayton — and they scored the goals.”
A turbulent close season at Hollinwood saw Hardicre step down as manager due to work commitments, to be replaced by Alex Marsh and Lee Renner.
But the pair resigned early in the campaign and Hardicre once more stepped in.
Clayton scored the opening goal with 16 minutes to play, firing the ball goalwards only to see his shot parried. He forced home the rebound.
Hollinwood were on a high and five minutes later Pyatt converted a cross from the excellent Reuben Abreu.
