OUR BALL! Westwood's Iqbal Hussain (left) appeals against James Dyson, of Blue Club.
Blue Club 0, Westwood 3
THREE goals inside a barnstorming 13 second-half minutes saw Westwood go top of Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League Martin Buckley Division Two.
And top spot was just what manager Nurul Hoque demanded from his players in his pre-match team talk.
It was one of only four matches played in the league due to waterlogged pitches.
Blue Club provided stubborn resistance in a dour first half of precious few chances.
A strong cross-wind at Clayton playing fields on what was - despite the recent rain - a surprisingly good playing surface helped neither side.
Blue Club had a steely determination about them that suggested a revenge mission was on the cards for their defeat at Westwood’s hands a week earlier.
All that changed in the second half.
Hoque didn't pull any punches: verbal blows worked wonders as Westwood stepped up a gear or two with a three-goal salvo to sink Blue Club.
ADVERSE weather conditions led to multiple waterlogged playing surfaces and caused widespread postponements for our local amateur football teams.
As for those who were in action, HOLLINWOOD ‘A’ drew 3-3 with Dukinfield Town ‘A’ in the Bridgewater Cup. HEYSIDE edged out neighbours Diggle 3-2 in Huddersfield and District League Reserves Division One. CHADDERTONIANS slipped to a 2-1 home reverse at the hands of Bury GSOB in Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division. And AFC OLDHAM routed Chorltonians 4-0 in Lancashire and Cheshire League Premier Division.
