FOOTBALL:

ADAM Mather's brace handed Mossley a 2-0 home victory over Ossett Albion in Evo-Stik League Division One North.

The win maintained the Lilywhites' four-point lead at the top of the table.

Mather opened the scoring with just over half an hour gone. Chris Rowney showed some fine footwork to feed his team-mate, who drilled home from 16 yards.

The hosts had several opportunities to extend their lead before the interval, but had to wait until the 80th minute score again.

Albion goalkeeper Adam Rhodes punched the ball out following a corner, only for Mather to smash the ball into the net with a superb volley from all of 22 yards.

Striker Sam Madeley made his return to action after two months out with an ankle injury, to the delight of the home contingent.

He came on as an 81st-minute substitute for Kayde Coppin.

Halford said: "Sam Madeley was begging me to bring him on towards the end of the match.

“And Sam Hind got another 20 minutes under his belt.”

OLDHAM Boro earned a 1-0 win at Abbey Hey in Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.

Darren Scanlon's 15th-minute effort proved to be the winner for sixth-placed Boro.

CHADDERTON remain in ninth spot in NWCL Division One following a 0-0 home draw against Leek CSOB.

Striker Niall Sultan had a good penalty shout turned down in the second half and Matty Russell, Dave Glynn and Ben Fletcher all went close.
