FIRST SETBACK . . . Ronnie Heffron comes under attack during his defeat at the hands of Denton Vassell last month.
BOXING:
PROMOTER Frank Warren wants to see Oldham’s Ronnie Heffron back in action in February.
Welterweight Heffron (22) suffered his first professional defeat in 12 outings in December in an unsuccessful bid to take Denton Vassell’s Commonwealth title at the Manchester Arena.
Backed by a fanatical following, the youngster was stopped in the sixth round by a pair of stinging uppercuts from the Mancunian.
But after putting the loss down to inexperience, Heffron shook off the disappointment and headed back to Anthony Farnell’s Failsworth-based gym.
Now Warren wants to see him back in the ring.
Farnell said: “His next two bouts need to be six or eight-rounders, just to get him back into the routine and find some rhythm.
“As soon as he has a couple of wins under his belt from those kind of fights we can then look at having another shot at a title.”
