TABLE TENNIS:
Table tennis leads the way as a sport for all wages - if the evidence of Honeywell ‘G’ versus Hollinwood ‘G’ is anything to go by.
Honeywell’s side boasted a combined age of 247, while their opponents’ total was 39!
The youngsters taught the old hands a thing or two in the Oldham Table Tennis League Division Four showdown.
Amir Hussain (nine), Abishek Balakrishnan (13) and Bobby Crossley (17) got the better of Tommy Loftus (86), Leo Cogger (81) and Ronnie Holt (80) in a 9-1 triumph.
Ronnie, the baby of the Honeywell trio, said: “Our legs and eyes aren’t as good as they once were, but you’ve got to try to keep fit.
“I think we’ve only won one or two matches this season, but as long as we can compete and give our opponents a good game, we’re happy.
“At one time, we would be coaching the youngsters while we were playing against them — telling them where to hit the ball — but they are coaching us now, they are that good.
“It all bodes well for the league, which must be one of the strongest in the around.”
