MIKE King bagged a hat-trick as Oldham GPO secured their place in the third round of the Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League Challenge Cup at he expense of Old Grey Mare at Clayton playing fields.
King could have added another goal to his impressive tally, but struck an upright from the penalty spot with five minutes to go.
Although the scoreline seems emphatic, GPO manager Chris Lawton praised the opposing side.
He said: "Mare started off well and after going behind they never gave up. The scoreline didn't reflect the game itself."
Of immediate concern to Lawton is GPO's elevation to the top flight of the Oldham Sunday League.
He added: "We are still in three cup competitions and that is great, but the main aim for us is to get into the Premier Division.”
FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD reached the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Cup after a comprehensive 3-0 triumph at Hunslet.
It extended the visitors’ superb run of form to 11 straight victories, against a side unbeaten at home this season.
Holders Avro exited the Manchester FA Challenge Trophy after a losing 3-1 to Gorse Hill Athletic.
