NETBALL:
OLDHAM Netball Club returned from Essex with its 100 per cent record intact after a 69-54 win over New Cambell in Premier League One.
The hosts featured ex-Northern Thunder shooter Lynsey Armitage who proved a valuable weapon, while Oldham were without a specialist centre — Laura Malcolm was on international duty and Beth Cobden injured.
Emma Dovey, moving out of defence to cover, alongside skipper Rachel Henry, took the game by the scruff of the neck. They delivered possession to Krista Enziano and Kathryn Turner — and the shooters were consistent in putting the ball in the net.
Leading 23-12 at the first break, Oldham were well on their way. Cambell fought hard in the second quarter to reduce the deficit by two by half-time.
The fightback continued and Cambell sneaked the third quarter 13-12, trimming Oldham’s lead to 48-40.
In the final quarter Oldham improved, showing character and pouncing on Cambell mistakes. Once again the goals flowed and Oldham took the final quarter 21-14.
OLDHAM are at home to bottom-of-the-table Leyton on Sunday.
HELEN Housby and Amy Clinton were quick out of the blocks as Oldham Netball Club overpowered Deeside 68-36 in the Northern League.
OLDHAM Netball Club’s under-16s were too strong for Lesan in the North-West Regional League, taking an emphatic 102-23 win.
Wing attack Bryony Rhodes and centre Rebecca Hope showcased their skills with some spectacular play, which tore apart the Lesan defence.
