OLDHAM Cricket Club looks set to join this summer’s Lake Garage CLL after all.
The Pollards club’s woes on and off the field last season, allied to their failure to attend the league’s annual meeting at Middleton CC, led to speculation that they were about to resign from the competition.
Some delegates at the annual meeting even expressed concern about the implications of a seven-team Championship — without Oldham — in the league in 2013.
The league’s officials have since thrashed out matters with club officials — new chairman Rashid Hussain, secretary Chris Furness and child welfare officer Abid Hussain.
League secretary Alan Wright said: “We had a lengthy discussion about the situation and were assured Oldham will have enough players in their first and second XIs to fulfil their fixtures, along with those in the under-18, under-15 and under-11 competitions they have elected to join.”
Talks also covered ground improvements, and the league will check works in March to ensure compliance before matches start in April.
