Angling: CONRAD Taylor defied freezing conditions to win the Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake.
He used pole and maggot for a skimmer and two chub landed late on for 2lb 2oz.
Runner-up Mick Tighe had a 15-minute burst, which included a chub and skimmer taken on pole and maggot for 1lb 11oz.
With the icy blast set to continue, this could be the last match until the spring.
PAUL BOOTH, of Trabrucco Halifax, followed up his win of a fortnight ago in the Todmorden AS open on the Rochdale Canal by landing the Halifax open on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Opting for bread-punch and caster at three and seven metres, the Middleton angler bagged 6lb 12oz of roach.
Team-mate Eric Green was drawn on the next peg, where he caught 4lb 12oz of roach on bread punch and caster at four and eight metres.
SUCH is the impact of the cold weather, I caught just one skimmer from a peg on the Rochdale Canal which, a week earlier, had produced 48 small skimmers
The elements have pushed the fish down and perhaps I overdid the feed — a big pot of liquidised bread at the start, when a smaller pot would have sufficed.
SADDLEWORTH and District Angling Society have changed the date for their annual meeting.
Originally earmarked for March 8, it is now on Friday, March 22 at Greenfield Conservative Club, Chew Valley Road (8pm).
LEES and Hey AC have places available and with Dowry and New Bridge reservoirs as venues, they are a good buy. Details, 07968 367880.

It gets under way on Sunday, with round two on January 27th. Matches three and four are on February 17 and 24 on the Hebden Bridge parts of the canal. Details 07951 339956.
