Basement duel ends all-square

FOOTBALL: THE battle of the basement boys ended even in the Midas Plumbing Oldham Sunday League Jack Abbott Premier Division, as Famous King George ‘A’ drew 2-2 with Oddies Athletic.
Stuck at the bottom of the table and having played five games more than their opponents, Oddies went into the contest desperate for maximum points. But they had to settle for a draw, with Cropper and Holt cancelling out efforts from Famous King George pair Smith and Schofield.
Both sides have two points and are yet to win a league game this season.
At the other end of the table, leaders Coppice United ‘A’ edged to a 4-3 triumph over fourth-placed Red Star.
In David Giblin Division One, leaders Anglers Arms enjoyed an emphatic 8-0 victory over Oldham GPO.
Failsworth Athletic remain four points adrift in second place after a 4-2 victory at Limeside Gardeners Rest ‘A’.
RIDING high in the Lancashire and Cheshire League, Premier Division, AFC Oldham booked their ticket for the next stage of the Rhodes Cup after a nail-biting 4-3 win at Old Ashtonians.
In the same competition, Oldham Victoria enjoyed a fine 5-3 win at home to Hillgate.
Santos FC remain rooted to the foot of Division One. They put up a good fight against leaders Parrswood Celtic before eventually succumbing 5-3.
