FOOTBALL: SPRINGHEAD were unable to make it a dozen wins in a row as they were held to a pulsating 3-3 draw at home to reigning champions Hindsford in the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League.
But the Ashfield Crescent side displayed plenty of fighting spirit, recovering from a 3-1 deficit to earn a point in the Premier Division clash.
Springhead started strongly, and after Josh Walker and Richard Bennett both missed good chances, they went head when Adam Monks’ cross was diverted into his own net by a Hindsford defender.
The goal galvanised the top-flight leaders, who equalised through Wes Bancroft. Hindsford went ahead two minutes before the break through Aaron Swift.
The second half was a more even affair, but Hindsford extended their lead when Josh Waldies curled a superb effort beyond Coombes.
The introduction of Nick Fitzpatrick gave Springhead a boost. His through-ball found full-back Dave Ashworth, who produced a composed finish.
Hindsford missed a penalty and Springhead capitalised on their good luck when veteran substitute Richard Ferguson headed home Ashworth’s cross.
Royton Town were unable to break down a well-organised Manchester Gregorian’s outfit on the 3G at the Platt Lane Complex. Town paid for their lack of firepower when they conceded a penalty with two minutes to go.
