NETBALL:

Chapman bemoans lack of consistency

SKIPPER Suzy Chapman highlighted a “lack of consistency” as her Oldham netball team was beaten 50-43 at home to Hull Chevrons in Northern League Division One.

The East Yorkshire outfit started the day third in the table, but leapfrogged their hosts after edging a close encounter at Hathershaw Sports Centre.

Chevrons were quick out of the blocks and entered the first break 11-7 in front.

Oldham grabbed the second quarter by the scruff of the neck, but the home side still lost the quarter 15-14.

The team was disjointed in the third quarter, its young shooters struggling against more experienced defenders.

An injury to Chapman saw Oldham reshuffle the pack — Jess Whitworth at wing attack and Issy McGlashen as wing defence with Jarvis switching to centre — but they were unable to stop Chevrons increasing their lead by half-a-dozen goals.

Oldham reverted to their starting line-up in the fourth quarter in an attempt to eat into Chevrons’ 11-goal lead.

Oldham won the quarter 17-13, but it was too little too late.

Chapman said: “Overall I was pleased with the girls. We lacked consistency and this is something we need to work on.”
