TABLE TENNIS:
THERE was a bizarre outcome in round one of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League’s Handicap Cup competitions.
Unison ‘C’ took on Our Lady’s ‘A’ in division four and enjoyed a 144-point start.
When Pete Hill (39) Mike O’Gara (47) and Gary Keylock (45) won 142 points against Our Lady’s trio Lewis Toal, Luke Gannon and Adam Stamp, it looked like Unison had won by four points.
But when the match secretary checked the scores a day later, it was found one of the games had been incorrectly totalled, and Unison had received six points too many.
Correcting the result gave Our Lady’s a two-point win., which Unison accepted without complaint.
Leaders St Saviour’s did well to overcome a 162-handicap deficit against Werneth ‘F’ to win by 51 points, due to gains by Adam Rowbotham (74), Brian Huskinson (67) and Jacob Reilly (49).
Ashley Murray was Werneth’s best player on the night.
