Ex-Rangers star joins Oxford club

RUGBY: AN exiled Oldhamer who lists his former clubs as Royton Tigers, Saddleworth Rangers, Oldham St Anne’s and Halifax has signed for the new Oxford Rugby League Club.
John Connaughton (29), a scrum-half, has lived in Oxford for several years and is the current captain and chairman of amateur club Oxford Cavaliers.
OLDHAM RL continue to keep a close eye on events at their partner club Salford City Reds, who are poised to announce the completion of their takeover by millionaire racehorse owner Dr Marwan Koukash.
Koukash is expected to become Salford’s new owner and chairman before tomorrow night's first game of the season against Wigan.
THE RFL has appointed former Football Association chief Brian Barwick as its new non-executive chairman in a part-time capacity.
