CRICKET: HEYSIDE are on the look-out for a new first-team skipper after Nick Campbell stepped down from the role.

The 32 year old, who lifted the Tanner Cup in 2012, is to become a dad for a second time in May.

He will continue to play alongside Namibian professional Gerrie Snyman, who enjoyed a fine debut year at Little Hey Street.

He explained: “It’s a very time-consuming job. I’m not saying I will miss a lot of games, unless the baby is born on a Saturday or Sunday, that is, but I can’t commit myself to all that goes on in the week.

“The club hasn’t decided who will take over.”

There could be a surprise addition to the Heyside ranks in 2013. Middle-order batsman Steve Bird, part of the furniture at Stayley over the years, has attended training sessions and is set to sign.
