Halford: football can be cruel

MOSSLEY twice surrendered the lead and eventually had to settle for a 2-2 draw at Salford City in Evo-Stik League Division One North.

The Lilywhites are two points clear at the top of the table, but second-placed Skelmersdale United have six games in hand.

Sam Hind put the visitors in front with 18 minutes gone.

New signing Chris Denham fed strike partner Hind, who slotted home at the second attempt.

Ten minutes before the interval Salford put the scores level, but the home outfit regained the lead just before the half-time break.

Madeley managed to nod the ball into the direction of Hind, who nodded in from close range - to the delight of the Seel Park contingent.

The away team made it 2-2 with 56 minutes on the clock, Nathan McDonald back-heeling the ball past two helpless defenders and into the goal.

Mossley boss Steve Halford said: "I told the lads afterwards that football is a cruel game. We created enough chances to win three matches, but we didn’t take them.”

OLDHAM Boro earned a 1-1 draw with Atherton Collieries in Vodkat North-West Counties League Division One.

Danny Smith put Collieries in front after four minutes, only for Darren Scanlon to cancel it out in the eighth minute.

CHADDERTON had a free weekend in NWCL Division One.
