Angling: SIMON Walton organised an open match on the Chadderton length of the Rochdale Canal and, considering everyone had to break the ice before starting, weights were pretty good.

Drawn on the bus garage length, Jim Newham (Todmorden AS) got among the skimmers, adding a big bream around the 4lb mark.

They all fell to bread punch at five metres to seal victory with 10lb 15oz.

John Edwards (Leigh Tackle and Bait) is probably one of the best bread punch anglers in the country and enhanced what is a brilliant season with a second-best 8lb 12oz of roach and skimmers.

THERE was a good turn-out for the Todmorden AS members match on Croft.
Steve Buckley led with his 44lb 5oz net, made up of big carp taken on the tip and maggot.

Chris Oliver was second courtesy of a 33lb 7oz net of carp

KEITH Stone was top dog in the Sycamore Fishery open match on Davis’s Lake where “dobbing” up against the reeds at 14 metres tempted nine carp for 9lb 2oz.
Runner-up Ronnie Forshaw was just a few ounces behind on 9lb with ide, skimmers and roach all making an appearance on pole and maggot before he added two carp.

KAMASAN winner Pete Humphries took a fair number of his qualifying points at Partridge Fisheries and picked up four by winning the eighth round of the Fishery Winter League on Convey Canal.
His 66lb net consisted of carp to 6lb and f1sh taken on pole and corn, from four metres.

Danny Scott was second with 64lb 1oz of carp which fell to maggot.

Work commitments stopped me from taking part in any matches this weekend, but a two-hour pleasure session saw me catch four pounds of roach and skimmers.

Sited on a peg at the back of the vinegar works and using a decent-sized cup of finely-liquidised bread fed at nine metres earned a bite every put in from roach and hand-sized skimmers.

I’ve fished Rochdale Canal for more than 30 years on and off and I have never seen so many fish being caught.
