FOOTBALL: DECIMATED by absentees, Royton Town manager Phil Haigh had to dig deep for the 3-2 win at Heywood in Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division.

With eight players missing and no substitutes, the writing looked on the wall as Heywood raced into a two-goal lead inside 10 minutes.

But Royton regrouped and with a superb goal by young Josh Staniforth sandwiched between two quality free-kicks from Carl Caffrey, Haigh’s men led 3-2 by the half-hour mark.


LIMESIDE King George reached the Manchester FA Sunday Amateur County Cup semi-finals after edging out Anglers 3-2.
