Angling: SHAUN Cooke’s match-winning bag of 72lb 7oz was almost double that of the next man in the Partridge Fisheries Open on Covey Lakes one, two, three and four.
He enticed small f1s and carp on pellet up to the next peg’s pallet.
Peg neighbour and Kamasan League leader Mike Reed had 42lb 4oz of f1s on maggot for second best.
EON Wilson emerged victorious in the latest Rochdale Canal open event on the Broadgate length.
Using bread punch, he landed plenty of small roach while worm attracted 1lb 4oz of perch which, together, weighing in at 3lb 10oz.
Oldham bait dealer Dave Brierley (Maver NW) was the best of the rest.
He used bread punch at 11 metres for 3lb 5oz of roach.
SUCH is the inconsistency of the Rochdale Canal at this time of the year, Sunday’s match on the Morrisons length was called off three hours in because not one of the 20 or so anglers had a bite.
I believe fish shoal up in tight areas which, if you are lucky to be in the right place, can result in a great day’s fishing. Otherwise, very little action at all!
CROFT Fishery was again in form for the latest Todmorden AS trophy match.
Chris Lett caught most of the net with his pole, tip and corn for 26lb 6oz of carp. Runner-up Rob McKendry opted for tip and pellet for 18lb 10oz of stockie.
THE Tri-Cast Highfield squad have been in dominant form at Sycamore Fisheries.
Failsworth-based Ken Power was the latest member to join the roll of honour, with 50 ide and skimmers and two small carp adding up to 10lb 7oz. He used pellet at five and 14 metres and maggot at 11.
Venue regular and co-organiser Tony Skoyles (Sycamore Fisheries) was second with a 3lb carp, along with small skimmers and ide on pinkie for 8lb 4oz.
ROUND four of the Thornhill Pairs League on the Thornhill Arm was won by Steve Mitchell, of Trabrucco Halifax.
Using bloodworm and joker, he tempted roach to 6oz for 3lb 6oz.
Next was Milnrow’s Simon Walton (Maver NW), who used identical tactics for a level 3lb of roach.
Walton maintained his 100-per-cent record for section wins and is in pole position for individual honours.
