FOOTBALL; HOLDERS Springhead secured safe passage to the Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Gilgryst Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 victory over Hindsford.
In a tight game on a difficult surface, both sides struggled to produce free-flowing football.
After plenty of nip and tuck, the deadlock was broken in the 80th minute when Paul Stevenson smashed home from 20 yards to give Lee McAllister’s side the lead.
With 60 seconds remaining Hindsford drew level, with player-manager Barry Massey tapping in a rebound.
As the contest looked to be heading towards extra-time, Springhead captain Joe Cunningham unleashed a stunning 40-yard screamer in the third minute of added time to win it for his side.
Premier Division action saw Avro go down to a 4-3 defeat at Beechfield United.
