Newell on ABA trail

BOXING: JOHN Newell sets out on the senior ABA glory trail tonight.

A member of Ben Lancaster’s Boarshaw gym, the teenager faces Hughie Fury, cousin of leading British heavyweight Tyson, in the first round at Cedar Mount School, Gorton.

Victory in the light-heavyweight (75kg) contest would seal a place in the area final, and move Newell a step closer to adding a senior title to the junior ABA crown he won earlier in his amateur career.
